The 1 Month LIBOR (London Interbank Offered Rate) is the interest rate set for banks to be able to borrow from each other for 1 month. LIBOR rates are important because they can serve as benchmarks for various interest rates globally. Many analysts will use LIBOR rates as an added rate or premium to value securities. The Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) forward curve represents the average implied forward rate based on SOFR futures contracts. Both curves reflect future expectations of FOMC policy, but LIBOR is a forward looking term rate while SOFR is an overnight rate. LIBOR also includes a component of credit risk not inherent in SOFR.
